Passive Seismic Survey Project

Seismotech was awarded a new passive seismic survey in Assam, Northeast India, aimed at imaging the subsurface beneath the Sonari-Safrai and Digboi-Kusijan blocks, operated by Oil India Limited (OIL), down to depths of approximately 10 km.

The core acquisition network comprised 400 seismic stations deployed over an area of approximately 1,000 km². Through the addition of strategically positioned peripheral stations, the effective survey coverage was expanded to nearly 5,000 km², enhancing the regional imaging capability of the study.

Data acquisition for the first phase commenced on March 8, 2025, and was successfully completed on June 5, 2025, despite challenging field conditions associated with the onset of the monsoon season. The second phase immediately followed, running from June 6, 2025, through February 2, 2026.

The processing and interpretation of the acquired data produced highly promising results, validating the survey design and confirming the value of passive seismic technology for deep subsurface exploration. These encouraging findings supported the continuation and successful completion of the project's second phase.
