Passive Seismic Survey Project

SEISMOTECH has successfully completed the Passive Seismic Survey by Tullow Oil Plc. The project was located in Turkana area in North West Kenya. The scope of work was the Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment for the area of interest, the baseline seismicity assessment, local site responses in particular sites, and update of velocity models based on passive seismic methods.

In order to fulfill project’s requirements, a passive seismic network consisting of 13 Broadband and 6 Strong Motion stations had been installed, within an area of about 1200 sq.km. The network installation and in-situ measurements had been completed on 29th of September 2018. The data collection and processing lasted for 12 months.

After 6 months of continuous monitoring, very significant knowledge in terms of Seismicity and local site response had been generated. This will add value to the Seismic Hazard Assessment study which is in progress.
