Passive Seismic Tomography Project Phase I

Project Area: approximately 2000km2

Seismic Network: 36 stations

Recording Period: 3 months

Number of Seismic Events located/used: 116/108

The scope of this project was to provide coarse, but reliable 3D P-wave velocity and Vp/Vs models, adequate for a reconnaissance stage mapping of the study area.Application of the Passive Seismic Tomography methodology for such a limited period of time, using a relatively small network, was more oriented in evaluating if local seismicity would be enough to sustain a complete Passive Seismic Tomography project.

This project was successfully completed in 2010 and a second phase project was launched in 2011.
